May Day
statement 2015
Dear sisters and brothers in the postal
sector in Palestine and worldwide,
Dear sisters and brothers in the
leadership of the independent trade unions in Palestine and partner unions
Dear sisters and brothers and partner
unions in the global union movement,
We send you greetings from the free
workers of occupied Palestine, where millions of people have been displaced
since 1948 and millions continue to live under the oppression and injustice of
Israeli colonial occupation, and its discriminatory policies
On this May Day, we reaffirm our love for freedom, and our aspiration to independence and self-determination, as well as our will as Palestinian workers to obtain our legitimate rights, our right to a fair wage, stable jobs, and respect of our right to organize and freedom of expression. On this occasion, the Palestinian Postal Service Workers’ Union (PPSWU) would like to express its high esteem for all female and male workers in the postal sector in Palestine and worldwide, and their rights-based struggles, and reiterates the will and demands of workers and employees in the postal sector in Palestine:
1. PPSWU
calls upon the Palestinian consensus government to provide job stability for
120 workers in PalPost (the Palestinian public postal service), which belongs
to the Ministry of Communications, through making necessary financial
allocations, as these workers have spent more than 13 years working through
temporary contracts, without job stability and without enjoying the benefits of
fellow governmental employees
2. PPSWU
calls for accelerating the process of adoption of a law protecting trade union
freedoms, as well as a fair social security law that will ensure a decent life
to Palestinian workers
3. PPSWU
thanks the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) in the UK for the decision of its
general conference on April 24-30, 2015, to support the steadfastness of the
Palestinian people and reinforce cooperation with Palestinian trade unions
4. PPSWU
sends its warm solidarity greetings to the members of the Canadian Union of
Postal Workers (CUPE) on the occasion of their general conference to be held on
May 2-8, 2015, and its expresses its full support to their struggle to maintain
a public postal service in Canada and good working conditions
5. Palestinian
postal workers call upon their sisters and brothers worldwide to manifest their
wide solidarity with the Palestinian people on the occasion of the
commemoration of the Nakba on May 15, reaffirming the necessity to pursue
advocacy campaigns on behalf of Palestinian rights, and expand and intensify
the Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions movement (BDS)
6. Palestinian
postal sector workers in Palestine call upon the global union UNI to respect
their independent decisions and accept the request for affiliation from their
sole representative, the Palestinian Postal Sector Workers’ Union (PPSWU),
condemning attempts to break the trade union unity in the postal sector in
Palestine
Long
live Palestine! Long live the unity of postal workers

Union (PPSWU)
