(*) In a statement signed by National President of CUT as well as its General Secretary and International Relations Secretary, the union stated:
“The advancement of the Israeli offensive, symbolized by the construction of the wall of apartheid and the constant bombing of Gaza requires solidarity with the Palestinian People from us all to carry out policies that go beyond humanitarian assistance and can contribute in a relevant way to build peace in Palestine. Thus we urge trade unions, social and popular movements to support the campaign for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions to policies of occupation of Palestinian territory by Israel.”
Lees de hier Palestijnse dankbrief na de geuite CUT-solidariteit (BNC thanks CUT Brazil for their public statement in “Solidarity with the Palestinian people", 23-2-2011 ).
I share your hope and support your ongoing struggle”.

SOLIDARITY WITH EGYPTIAN WORKERS IN STRUGGLE
An appeal from Kamal Abu Aita, President of the Egyptian independent Property Tax Collectors' Union, RETAU
"We want trade union solidarity, not fake solidarity from international governments. This international workers' solidarity is an alternative to capitalist globalization and militarization.
The British and US governments make a lot of noise about 'democracy' and 'stopping the violence', but the bullets which are killing us are made in the USA. This message must get out: the regime cut off our communications.
But workers' solidarity is stronger: it shows we can make a more humane future together. We have founded a new independent union federation which has around 2 million members and includes four unions: RETAU, the Pensioners' Union, the independent teachers' union and the healthworkers' union.
The new union federation was founded in Tahrir Square on 25 January, it is called the Egyptian Federation of Independent Unions. The independent unions have been here from the beginning.
We formed committees to defend the revolution on the first day, while the government-controlled Egyptian Trade Union Federation was organising committees to smash the revolution.
We are organising civil disobedience and encouraging people to stay in the streets and not go to work. This great revolution has opened new horizons for workers' freedoms.
It is also characterized by unity between Muslims and Christians.
Reactionary forces are trying to stir up sectarian hatreds because they are afraid of this unity.
We reject any negotiations with the regime before Mubarak goes. We will only support a negotiating committee when Mubarak has gone. You can help us. Your pressure on the government will help us."

David S Halpin FRCS rapporteert:
The Methodical Shooting of Boys at Work in Gaza, 23-1-2011
The deliberate injury of the limbs of 23 boys by high velocity weapons has been logged and described by Defence for Children International – Palestine Branch (DCI-P) since March 2010. (1) Some of the facts have been published in national newspapers. These barbarous acts contravene international and national law but there are no judicial responses. The caring professions see the physical and mental pain of those who suffer and they should be in the vanguard in calling for this great cruelty to cease forthwith. Political leaders have failed to act. The Geneva Conventions Act 1957, which is of central importance in holding war criminals to account in the jurisdiction of the UK, is being emasculated.
... The shooting to wound and kill Palestinians is relentless. DCI-P notes that according to a UN study, between January 2009 and August 2010, at least 22 Palestinian civilians in Gaza have been killed and 146 injured in the arbitrary live fire zone adjacent to the border with Israel and imposed at sea. At least 27 of these civilians were children. It also notes that the targeting of civilians is absolutely prohibited under international law, regardless of circumstances. ....

Abdallah Abu Rahma, Palestijns antimuur-activist, langer gevangen gezet.
"By extending Abdallah Abu Rahma's sentence the Israeli authorities appear to be seeking not only to punish him further in a case where the prosecution’s evidence was questionable to begin with, but to deter others from participating in legitimate protests," said Philip Luther, Amnesty International's Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa.
"Amnesty International believes Abdallah Abu Rahma to be a prisoner of conscience, jailed solely for the peaceful exercise of his right to freedom of expression and assembly. As such we call for his immediate and unconditional release."
Abdallah Abu Rahma was found guilty of "organizing and participating in an illegal demonstration" and "incitement" by an Israeli military court on 24 August 2010. He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment on 11 October 2010.

Slotconclusies Russell Tribunal on Palestine (Corporate Complicity)
Daaruit:
....
7.7 The Tribunal concludes that corporate actors may be liable under international criminal law and/or under domestic criminal law if they have taken decisions as a result of which corporations have become involved in assisting Israel‟s violations of international law. They may also be liable under civil law, in particular, under the Alien Tort Statute in the United States, which provides a tort remedy for serious violations of international law.
...
7.13 Finally, the Tribunal calls upon individuals, groups and organizations to take all necessary measures to secure compliance of corporations with international human rights and humanitarian law standards, in particular: boycotting corporations that assist in violations of international law, shareholders holding corporations to account, divestments by pension funds of investments tainted by illegality, and actions that continue to put corporations in the spotlight with the purpose of bringing about change in corporate culture. The Tribunal finds legal support for these initiatives in the Opinion of the International Court of Justice on the Wall, in which the Court stated that there exists an erga omnes obligation to refrain from recognizing or in any way supporting the illegality that arises from the conduct of Israel by building the Wall and violating international humanitarian law.
